Nice, hyped

I was cucked yesterday when they emailed me a download code but it was equivalent to pre-ordering when I entered it

I really am annoyed as fuck that backers have to wait until everyone else is able to download it to play tbh.

The game went gold months ago, reviewers have had the game for weeks, physical version backers got stuff in the mail last week, ps4 backers were able to start playing today, xbone launches it at midnight. PC players are stuck waiting until tomorrow at at noon and aren't even able to preload it.

Preload just became available on Steam. Still can't play it until Steam says you can though, it's so fucking lame lol.

Also I couldn't afford physical version, that shit was expensive af cause they kept running out of the physical tier.

It's even stupider because this is a case where the PC version is literally the only good one. Really blows for everyone involved.

They could delay it a month and I probably wouldn't care because I paid so long ago it feels like I'm getting it for free

I'm so frustrated with these issues that I gave up on the Steam community and emailed Playtonic's bug department in the hopes that they will respond or patch the issue. If you see anything in the below files that will help me work around these crashes or stop them, please let me know.

Email to Playtonic Games Wrote:Every time I attempt to enter Hivory Towers for the first time as Yooka and Laylee, My graphics card crashes and I have to manually power off the computer. This crash has occurred outside of Hivory Towers, but it happens with consistency when I entire the building and approach Trowser inside.

This occurs on the standard and exclusive versions of the game no matter what I set my display settings too. I have attempted to run the game in high priority mode, Windows 10 Creator Game Mode, I have attempted a clean graphics driver install, I have used the DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ installers that are included in the game folder and I've run out of ideas.

As a Deluxe Digital backer, it is disappointing that I cannot get the game to run on my system even though I more than meet the minimum requirements. I am looking forward to any help you can give me and that these issues may be fixed soon.

I've included the pastebins ((in the email, they are the actual files)). Hope they are of some help!

So, I've played a good chunk of the game, I've got like 50 pagies and I gotta say that this game is painfully inconsistent. At it's worst it's woefully mediocre, at it's best it's just as fun as it's inspiration. The first two worlds are okay, but the third world is where I've had the most fun so far. I'm very torn on my experience so far, there's a lot to like about Yooka-Laylee but at the same time it's marred by (frankly) amateurish execution.

It lacks a lot of polish in all areas, especially in regards to attention to detail. For example, there are these shooting gallery segments where you shoot at wooden targets. Upon hitting a target, what should be a satisfying krrrthunk amidst a flurry of broken planks is instead a bling and a vanishing target. Capital B will also randomly quip at you in Hivory Towers, this could have been elevated greatly by sound of an activating intercom before he speaks, as it is these interactions are more like telepathy.

Dunkey put it best in his review of the game, saying that it feels like a fan tribute as opposed to a work by professionals. The game's skeptics ought to feel vindicated, but at the same time this is a serviceable experience for someone who's desperate for this style of game.

There's now a very real possibility that A Hat in Time will be better than Yooka-Laylee

No, you might agree when you get a chance to actually play Yooka-Laylee

i played for a couple hours and it's okay

the camera SUCKS and there's too much bloom but otherwise it's okay

edit: i don't know whether my lack of rare nostalgia is going to make me like or dislike the game, probably dislike if any more major issues pop up

I really don't get the complaints, I've only been watching so far (banjo kazooie wasn't my nostalgia trip) but it seems to hit all the marks. The goal was to be a tribute, even a parody of banjo, so to me it makes sense to have some level of rustic charm

Also I think the camera is fine but I also love the Sunshine camera and most people seem to hate that one too

I'm very forgiving but the camera is not fine. It gets caught on geometry constantly, it would rather wrestle control away from the player than clip through anything. This becomes very problematic with small objects like foliage and rocks.

There was one time in the Casino level where I thought I clipped out of the world when I slid under a ramp. I was stuck on a top-down view of the ramp for like 5 seconds until it snapped under revealing I was in a hidden room beneath the ramp.

ALSO luckily every problem I've seen people give can be fixed with patches. Video games aren't released in a completed state anymore, I don't like it either but that's how it is. Fundamentally there's a really really good and charming game here

Yeah I'm waiting for a while before I play this to see if they iron out most of the issues with patches, considering that huge pre-day one update they did that fixed a bunch of reviewer complaints.

Camera aside, I think when the worst complaint is "there's no intercom sound effect when the boss talks to you", that's a pretty good sign that we're dealing with a fine game
