ranking my favorite movies is pointless and arbitrary so here's a random ordering of movies i currently like
1. Her
2. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
3. Moonrise Kingdom
4. Punch-Drunk Love
5. Chungking Express
6. Mad Max: Fury Road
7. Synecdoche, New York
8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
9. Spirited Away
10. The Truman Show
i'm pretty sure none of our lists are going to have any overlap but w/e
i also have only seen mr nobody and american honey once so i can't really vouch for them but they'd probably be on the list if i rewatched them

-10. Total Recall (1990) although really I love RoboCop too
-9. Superman (1978)
-8. Top Secret!
-7. The Matrix
-6. Wolf Children
-5. The Wizard of Oz
-4. Scott Pilgrim vs The World but I adore all of Edgar Wright's movies
-3. Back to the Future
-2. Stand By Me
-1. The Avengers, ok just kidding, The Princess Bride
I wanted to focus on movies that had a profound impact on me and how I've developed my appreciation for movies and fiction in general, not necessarily just movies that everyone else already loves. A lot of these movies I wouldn't strictly say are ~great~ movies, but I really enjoy them either way, and I would say that I do find myself revisiting all of the movies on this list at least every few years. Also, while looking over various lists of movies I saw Kick Ass 2 and the Green Hornet on Amazon and I'd like to nominate those two for the worst theater going experiences I've ever had.

10. Dude, Where's My Car
for reasons unknown to me, i watched this film like, twelve times in one year. it's crass, offensive and bad but i still think about "dude, what does mine say" "SWEET. Now what does MINE say." "DUUUUDE-"
9. Crank
not necessarily a good film but highly enjoyable and occasionally bizarre film. sequel isn't quite as good but gets crazier
8. Jingle All The Way
put that cookie down
7. Pacific Rim
great film this - one i can always happily chuck on. three armed robot was woefully underused
6. Christmas Vacation
guess what motherfucker it's another christmas film, didn't expect that now did you - i watch this film almost yearly as a tradition, and certain quotes have snuck into my vocabulary seemingly forever. shitter's full
5. 12 Angry Men (either version)
surprisingly understated film that i've always enjoyed watching
4. Snatch
good film, even though i've only watched it like twice, but i very much enjoyed it both times.
3. Rear Window
honestly, i havent watched many of hitchcock's films but this is my favourite of his. do not get this confused with disturbia, that film's bad
2. Clue
was talking about this film the other day - really fun film, while tim curry is great in this basically everyone is highly enjoyable in this film. also, the fuckers actually had multiple endings in cinemas iirc which fits too well with Clue(do) itself
1. Hot Fuzz
im only picking one edgar wright film, and this one just edges out over Shaun of the Dead for me. highly enjoyable and i cant stop saying yarp please help
im probably forgetting a film so i may come back and edit this
