It looks like the banjo string and sack drawstring could both work and be hidden by the knife wound.

Not Shane's rope is much thicker than any of those, and you'd have to really destroy his throat outright to hide that.

After camera is set up I see individually: Zalsarona, Cascabela, Not Shane, and hifumi come in from the dorms and go to the left.

Kroos passes though from the right > left
Akira eventually comes from the left and exits right towards blue building.
Not Shane comes in, grabs his rag, then leaves again to the left.

Ranger comes in via dorms and rummages around, while hes hanging out Cascabela comes in from the left to grab things then leaves left again.

Pete n VB passes left to right

The trio of : Cascabela, Evageline, and Roland show up for a bit and leave left

Ranger heads from the left to the dorm.
North star comes from the stairs and leaves to the left
Nico comes from the right and leaves to the left
Cascabele, and Zalsarona then come from the left and go to the dorms to go to bed zzz.

Looks like it's not damp and not skin-holding.

Actually even though I know timing tests are like KG's classic blunder, may as well try retracing Cascabela's steps, including passing a bag of onions through the jail bars one by one, and asking Bud to judge if the timing is close to what he remembers. But that's a lot of work so make Evangeline play the role of Cascabela here instead.

Have someone repeat this, for good measure both with and without individually passing the onions through the cell bars.

Also for good measure, is putting the onions through the bars individually the only practical way to get a sack of onions through, or can the sack be squeezed through whole with some effort? If so, would there be evidence left behind by that, like fibers on the bars or bruising or anything done to the vegetables?

It looks like individually passing the onions is the only way to get the sack through without damage. You CAN squish it through, but it crushes the onions badly.

No, that'd create a bruise like the rope, where it wouldn't be hidden by a cut.
