super mario odyssey is probably the first main series mario game to actually touch on aspects of mario lore that were only ever part of supplemental material

like that whole backstory of mario being a plumber/carpenter in the "real world" before coming to the mushroom world. i thought new donk city was gonna be the game's interpretation of the "real world" but the logic is a little bit fuzzier now, it feels more like new donk city is a part of the mushroom world rather than an entirely separate dimension.

and one wonders how they plan to explain the fact that there are realass people walking around next to this fucking cartoon midget, if at all. maybe mario had more human proportions before and his look is a horrific side effect of his entering the mushroom kingdom or something, like some side effect of using pipes all the time or something. or maybe its just multiple epiphyseal dysplasia
