Also, is there anywhere else on the map besides the basement shrine where the same sort of ritual knife can be found? The Chapel maybe?

Is there any other information I can find out from the voice recorder? Is it analogue, or some sort of digital device that might have a timestamp for when the recording was created?

Right, so - like I was saying... there's more underneath the Orange Building than just the mines, but as usual, I'm guessing you guys won't let me off easy if I don't share the rest too. I'm telling you though... I'm pretty sure it's not gonna matter much in the grand scheme of things.
As you might be able to guess from looking at me, I thought I'd play the role of personal trainer for the cat. He won't get far in this business looking like that, and if Atua's really on his way here... we'd all better whip ourselves into shape real quick.
![[Image: tracksuitneutral_fvpdrs.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1743212242/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/tracksuitneutral_fvpdrs.png)
'Course, I had some stops to make first. The Blacksmith mostly. Like you'd expect, I'm carrying a bunch of keys around at this point, so I thought I'd be safer to make a couple copies. Ranger and Lynne were in here working too, but I couldn't tell what they were up to. Guess I wasn't really wasn't lookin'.
Evangeline met me here, like we planned earlier. Gave her a couple copies of the keys, and we talked for a little bit about what we're gonna do if the big man himself - Atua - shows up. The way I see it, all the Crimson Eye research here points towards him being a Liturgic entity, right? Well, in that case... we'd need to get our hands on some Occultic gear. It didn't look like the Crimson Eye had any research in anything besides Liturgy, but this is this, and that's that. I figured we'd find a way, yeah?

Well, we split ways and I went up to the Tailor. Ventura and Lynne were working on something in Carpentry on the way out, but again... didn't really pay 'em much mind. Up in the Tailor, I put together this workout suit and went over to the Soundstage to see what was going on. Lynne was here too, I really couldn't seem to shake her - but North Star and McJango were here too.
Haha, I cranked up a radio from Film Equipment and started showin' them how it's done. Really got a solid workout in - even the cat started to look like he lost a couple of pounds - but I dunno if he got as "buff" as he says he is, I left early.

Obviously I wanted to help the little guy out, but I'll admit I had an ulterior motive. I was hoping the Sheriff would show his face - so I could beat it in with a dumbbell and steal his jail key. I might not be in danger in there, but I'd rather not lose half my night... I've got stuff to do.
I met up with Lynne and Evangeline again after leaving, over by the Storeroom. We noticed someone'd sawed the hatch open - so much for duplicating the keys - and went down to check it out and take a look around the purple basement. Couldn't find much, but the drill tank was missing, and someone scrawled the word "PETE" in flaming letters down there. If I had to guess, that must be one of the abilities of that Abnormality we summoned last night.
Sure wish we woulda' picked the other guy...

I wasn't totally honest last night, by the way.
The code behind the movie screen's not the only thing I found - I found another code out at the Radio Tower too. Wanted to keep that in my back pocket until I could check it out myself, but it didn't work on the door in here. There was another door worth trying though, over in the labs - so we took a detour through that creepy underground Chapel.
![[Image: tracksuithaah_yimy6y.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1743210911/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/tracksuithaah_yimy6y.png)
While we made our way over, Evangeline and I took a look over at that "??? Room", or the Shrine to Atua, I guess. Cascabela and Bud were supposed to be trying to bash the wall down with a big hammer, but it looks like someone got there first and blasted it open. Both of 'em were there though, Partitio too. Can't say I expected to see something like that past there, but then again... what exactly did I expect?
Ah, well. We didn't hang around too long. We had a door to check.
Back in the Crimson Eye Labs, I tried the passcode on that last door there - and it worked. Took us South, but it didn't look like we were heading into another Crimson Eye facility, or even a building in general. Hewn stone walls, old support beams... It was like that mineshaft. Which tracks, because we were headed straight under Orange.

As for what we found... I'm sure you guys are familiar with the Bureau of Paranormal Investigation, right? Maybe you've heard of their precursor, before their Director took them international: The FBI Special Investigations Unit.

What we stumbled across... was some kind of secret base they used to observe what was going on here at Silver Junction - and they had plenty of files explaining exactly that. Back in 1873, it wasn't some kind of mass rapture event, and it wasn't religious sacrifice. Not really. Truth is, Spencer Edwards wasn't too different from our "hosts" - it was a Killing Game.
He spent years prepping the town, opening them up to his god's teachings, and then under the cover of darkness, he took out the sheriff - the one guy who knew he was up to no good. It didn't stop there though. He feigned ignorance, started up a witch hunt, and the town ate itself alive. Vigilante killings at night, mob lynches during the day, and one man at the center of it all, bathing in the bloodshed.
All the while, the Union Army Paranormal Division was keeping watch. Once the town thinned itself out enough, they made their move and...

...That's about it.
Yeah, like it goes with these top-secret government documents... the rest of it was missing. Apparently President Grant wasn't a fan of this info getting out, and ordered it all sealed. No idea what happened to Spencer or the rest of 'em. Hah... just when I was hoping for answers about this whole thing...
Anyway, There was more down here than just files, don't get me wrong - bunch of Occultic weaponry, some barracks, a buncha stuff you'd expect - and a bunch more I don't know anything about. I'm sure Evangeline can fill you in on the details and give you the grand tour better than I can, she's the one working with Paranormal Division's successor agency. At least we didn't run into any trouble down there - doesn't seem like either the Crimson Eye or anyone else has really touched the place.
There wasn't much else we wanted to do, so after this train whistle went off, we headed back out through the Vault - and I went back to bed.
![[Image: tracksuitehhh_skvtfn.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1743220986/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/tracksuitehhh_skvtfn.png)
Well, I was gonna, but Bud was waiting for me outside my room. Told me he wanted to arm wrestle. Well, I wasn't about to turn down a challenge, so I gave it a shot. The big guy's just as strong as he looks though - either that or he's really mastered the art of leverage. It was a tough fight, but he slammed me alright. Oof, my arm still hurts after that.

...Uh, on another note... any of you willing to grab that key and let someone out of jail tomorrow? Just asking for a friend...
Agent Evangeline
It's true. Now that he's mentioned it, I can safely say that the Union Army Paranormal Division is the original government paranormal management organization. Founded in the Civil War on direct orders from President Abraham Lincoln, it was designed to manage and suppress paranormal phenomena, which was turning out to be a major problem during the war.
But you didn't come here for a history lesson... and I'm not sure how much I can say, considering this Forbidden Action. Roland's already told you what we found, the story of the first Silver Junction Killing Game, the one held here a century and a half beforehand. Likely responsible for why this place is soaked in liturgic energy, and the reason why we have the many graves. In retrospect, that's why he had train and stagecoach service cut as well. The isolation is a vital part of a proper Killing Game.
As we all know well.
No, you're here for the where. The code is 8146166. I'll walk you through it.
With that, Evangeline opens the keypad door leading south from the Green Basement. You follow her through to reach the Orange Basement, and find the first room - the Paranormal Division Headquarters. Roughly hewn into the rock, it's a hastily, yet carefully excavated area, lit by lanterns and full of maps, tactics, and documents. This was the main staging ground during the Paranormal Division's operation in 1873 - documentation mentions that with the clearly suspicious state of the town, the commander of the group here didn't trust the Army Post or Officer's Club, and focused on staying out of sight.
Circling to the right, you find the Union Army Barracks. Though the mattresses are old and falling apart, it's clear this was where the Paranormal Division's soldiers stayed, the operation designed to remain underground for as long as necessary. To the south of the Barracks is Occultic Weaponry Storage. It's a bunch of old-fashioned Occultic weaponry, made at the time to help counter threats - though since it's all Civil War era, it's old-fashioned pistols and ammo, and a handful of melee weapons like cavalry swords and bayonets. No fancy super Occultic guns here, unfortunately.
Going to the west from there, you find the last major room, the Army Supply Depot. While the food was probably good at the time, it's a century and a half past the sell-by date at this point, though it could make a good poison. There's blankets, wood, and other supplies, though. Might be able to get something out of that. You head back up to the Headquarters, where you notice two more doors. The west one is locked by a keypad, and none of the publicly available passcodes work, the keypad spitting out an error with the Piano, Radio Tower, and Movie Theater passcodes alike.
The east one, however, opens, and you realize this leads to the Mineshaft of the ruined mine, about a third of the way down from the top. Hopping onto the ropes, you look back and realize that there's a hidden door. You never would have been able to spot it from the outside, but now that you know where it is, it's easy to find it again. Looks like you can head between the underground and aboveground like this, now.
As a result of this investigation, the map has been expanded. You may investigate any of these rooms in more detail.

My night was pretty straightforward, was really just dedicated to carpentry so I can keep this short.
Woke up and headed out toward Carpentry to finish working on a contraption I'd been working on. I spent my whole night there and did manage to see quite a few people during that time. In order:
1) Ranger came in via the dorms and went to the Blacksmith
2) Lynne came down the stairs and entered the Blacksmith, then back into Carpentry and started working on something
3) Roland and Evangeline then entered from the blacksmith on their way outside
4) Lynne must have finished whatever she was working on cause she leaves
5) Ranger then comes in from the Blacksmith and goes outside as well
6) A good while passes then some cloaked person comes downstairs. I prepared to get bonked again but they just left instead.
7) Hifumi then enters from the Blacksmith and heads upstairs
8) Zalsarona comes in from outside and goes upstairs, then comes back downstairs very soon after that
9) Partition comes in from the dorms then goes into the Blacksmith
For times sake, I should mention that I heard a train whistle go off before Partition entered Carpentry. But anywho, after all of that my project was finally completed. I headed back to my dorm and went to bed.

I decided to investigate two of the major anomalies, being the extended wall in the movie theatre and the unusual star.
The theatre wall, I discovered, you can just get behind, and there appears to be some kind of code written on the wall in there. I was unable to read it properly in the darkness, however.
I passed McJango on my way out, if you care about that kind of thing.
Next I ascended Prickly Pear Dorm, climbing onto the roof to investigate the Star

Right. After terrible, stomach-turning events of yesterday, I felt like I had to take critical measure.
Director Toilet hired me as support worker, but clearly little horde of diache cannot be left alone.
So here I am. Let Zaza pull your bobkest out of fire.
Night began--as they say in my homeland--with head full of plans, heart full of dreams, and ass full of fire. I had to fix bee problem, save everyone from slow death of thirst, and I think I found way to do both.
I went to general store and of course some palaknin had broken the trap door to the basement. Not a surprise this point. I go down into underground garage, inspecting the infernal drill machine down there. Not Shane comes in while I do this and goes to processing, then Akira goes the opposite direction, followed by Hifumi later. That one comes back as soon as I open the big shutter and activate elevator. She asks me if she can ride the drill with me, and I don't say no. This is good, maybe she can make reparation for the sandwich incident by helping me fix the water situation.
So I fire up drill.
"It is time to pierce heaven! We will make the angels sing by drilling bottom of cloud they are sitting on!"
Luckily, the infernal drill machine drives exactly like Zaffrian tractor, so I am instant expert. They must have imported gearbox or something, can't beat our domestic engineering. Elevator rises and comes out near plot, where Bud is. We drive past and pierce into the heart of mountain in search of water. There is old Zaffrian wisdom about finding water even in difficult location: It is simple matter of willpower; you dig until either you cry or the earth does. As I have peeled onions for 60 somesuch years, I have perfect control over my tear ducts, and so the mountain WEEPS like ugly stepchild as it bows before me.
So we continue on to dig trench around plot to save the bees, water following behind us as we do. You can see path we took on map. On the way east we see Evangeline and Lynne, so we make for a tea break. Luckily I still had thermos of clean water from the day before. When Hifumi and I finish drilling the trench, we are at orange building. She leaves after that while I take brief rest, winding down by the sparkling river water.
That is when another cloaked appears, coming up to me! But little hoodlum, you do NOT sneak up on Zaffrian girl on a work high! Big mistake!
You want to poison water again? Waste food, destroy produce, mess with the catering? Do a "funny" TicTac on the internet?
Kravalkka clearly had too many bad thoughts in them. I help them air those out through new hole in leg.
After protecting the new water source from the evils of youth, I decide I might as well save lives of the intrepid and foolish over at the workout place. So I go quickly into orange building to grab the doctor supplies (the animal detective sees me doing this) and go over there. On my way to back stairs of blue, I hear a loud train whistle noise. People at the workout are McJango, Akira, Ranger, Director Toilet, and North Star who is just leaving. Miraculously nobody is dead... yet, even as Nico arrives a bit later.
When the event wraps up, I decide I want to see the new basements, so I re-enter the underground through the bank in green. I pass by Kroos on the way, and see Yellowil snooping around. I try to break into the mysterious room, but somebody already exploded the wall. So after Partitio leaves I go back to my dorm through purple basement, seeing Nico down there as I go up.
Anyway, we have clean water again. You may drink upstream and wash downstream.
Bees are also safe and hydrated now. All is well, no more Wrestle Man Tea.
...
But if you are Kravalkka and think to cause trouble again...
You stay away from the water!

Diggin' out a canal, ain't that somethin'! For a town caught in one of these Killing Games, sure feels to me like life's springin' back into Silver Junction! Groundwater flowin', bees housed, if we get that mine up and runnin' again, we'll rollback ol' Edwards' legacy yet!
Speakin' of Edwards' legacy, I decided I oughta beat the heat by crawlin' through the plumbing the Crimson Eye went and put down. Spent most all of my night down in the depths, though most all what I saw had been picked cleaner than a vulture's meal.
After dustin' myself off from last night, I made my way down to the Saloon, catchin' sight of Akira and Hollywood Bowl yakkin' at the bar. I wasn't lookin' to intrude, so I grabbed myself what I needed and made a quick pit stop in the Stable. That, er… Pete, was it, was leanin' idly round here, but I pressed right on.
I stopped on in the Livestock Corral next. Considerin' the star shinin' in the skies, I reckoned someone best check that the animals ain't been spooked. 'Round this time, Madame Zalsarona and Hifumi came rumblin' by in their drill tank.
Once I knew the livestock were all settled, it was time to roll up my sleeves and get in the basement. I marched myself up to the General Store and tailed Cascabela through the trapdoor… which someone had done and cut already. S'pose that explains the shindig I stumbled on. Place was packed tighter than a tin of sardines with Bud, Lynne, Evangeline, and Roland in his new getup down there already.
Roland and Lynne have a knack for this investigative work, so I hitched my wagon to Bud and Cascabela as we went over to the Sacristy, findin' Kroos there. Curiosity's a mighty force, and some curious soul had gone and blown open that unmarked room.
…After last night… Hssph… Even had the sun been beatin' down through the ceiling, I'd've shuddered all the same upon seein' that Shrine to Atua. Couldn't bring myself to go in, so I got to lookin' round the Sacristy... Shoulda known it was a bad omen to see the ritual knife was missin'...
After a bit of pokin' around and comin' up empty-handed, I sighted Evangeline and Roland ramblin' eastwards while Lynne joined us. The rest of the blue basement turned up 'bout a pebble's price's more, and sometime after a train whistle sounded off, Bud and Cascabela finally went off to the west. Lynne took the west, then Kroos the east, 'n' as I gave one last look to that Shrine, Madame Zalsarona came in from the east and laid her own eyes upon it.
It was gettin' mighty stuffy downstairs, so up I went through the Vault in the Green Building. I crossed on over to the Orange Building, passing Ace Ventura in Carpentry as I made my way to the Blacksmith to make good on a debt.
Slipped back to my dorm after all that. The road gets rougher from here, and a man can't march without rest!
Hmm... wet knife... For the sake of potentially narrowing it down to having gotten wet in Purple or via the tunnels...
Wet a knife in the Army Post and carry it outside, How fast does it dry in the excessive heat? What about if it's shielded in a pouch or something from the General Store?

While he's doing that, what's up with the tunnel anyway? How high is the water down there in the tunnel between the Saloon and the Dorms, and where on my person would I have to carry the knife for it to get wet just walking through there?

Can't see it being very comfortable, but if the water's shallow... how hard would it be to hide the knife in my shoe?

For the sake of potentially narrowing it down to having gotten wet in Purple or via the tunnels...It looks like with the heat, it'd dry off pretty quickly. Putting it in a pouch means it dries much more slowly, and you're pretty sure it'd stay wet the whole night.

Looks like the knife could be carried in your hand or your shoe to get them wet.
Things are really gettin' rough out here, y'all. Between what Partitio says 'bout this "Atua" comin' and plenty of us fixin' to spend the night in jail, I reckon I don't like where this is goin'. And Spence Redwards is still on the loose! So I decided I'd make some preparations in the Blacksmith, passin' by Ventura in Carpentry on the way there. Hope y'all don't mind if I keep the details of that project to m'self fer a spell? Seein' as how us jail folk are gonna be in more danger than usual, I ain't too keen on playin' all my cards for someone to take advantage of.
Anyhow, Roland and Evangeline came in during that time and worked on somethin' of their own fer a bit, leavin' before I wrapped things up. After I finished I went back downstairs and saw Ventura still workin', then went out through the dorm. Thought I'd take a shot at that mysterious star that popped up in the sky, and er...
It repelled the shot and almost tore through your chest, Ranger.
Yep... If y'all want a word o' my advice, don't try that. Anyhow, I went over to Prickly Pear to use one o' them tunnels as a shortcut to beat the heat. Popped out in Desert Sage and went on in to the General Store to stock up. Saw Cascabela come in to grab some things, then she went on back into the Sheriff's Office. I went there too and slipped a deck o' cards into the cell so we'd have something to pass the time tonight. That's when I saw the bag o' onions, and, more importantly, Not Shane's desk was a real mess. I ain't sure if that's related to how the poor feller ended up or not. Also made a quick stop in the Army Post fer some ammo.
After that I went back out through the dorm and went up the back stairs to the Soundstage. McJango, Akira, and North Star were there already. Seein' as how we'd be workin' up a sweat I set up some fans I grabbed from the General Store. As for m'self, I'm already in peak physical condition, so I reckoned I'd just watch and offer some support. Plus some protection from my Big Iron, seein' as how we don't have the best track record with these shindigs. Hollywood Bowl came in limpin' and lookin' mighty irritated. Then that... Pete n VB came in.
He gives me the creeps.
I know Marty, me too! He slapped up a poster and then went and kicked poor McJango like a football! I was about to fulfill my ranger duties but North Star and Akira made quick work of him. Nice work, y'all. A loud train whistle went off and North Star left, then Madame Zalsarona came in from the back stairs. I stuck around a bit longer then went outside to check on Bud's bee farm. I ain't no bee expert but they seemed to be doin' fine, I reckon. Saw Zalsarona's new canal, which I'm much obliged fer, and an unconscious cloaked person lyin' around. From what y'all have said, that must've been Elster. I went back to the General Store and crossed paths with Hollywood Bowl goin' into the Saloon. Used the tunnels to get back to Prickly Pear and then went back over to Carpentry. Ventura had finished things up and was headin' back into the dorms, and I took care of some unfinished business in the Blacksmith before goin' to bed.

What's deal with the poster the infernal anomaly put up in the Soundstage?
