DAY 10 - Close Cuts

...We're almost out of here. I just need to keep reminding myself of that. As long as we can survive this case, we're fine.
My testimony, then. I woke up, and as arranged, went to the Cemetery. I encountered Nico on the way, and we went together there, meeting with the group as already mentioned - Roland, McJango, Morgan, and Panimajesh. Roland gave us the assignments, as he described, and I went with Nico to investigate the Red Building. We did some poking around, but all we found was an envelope addressed to the slayer of the black witch in the Post Office, and... Something about Morgan made me think of that phrase. So I picked it up and took it with me.
Returning to the Cemetery and seeing Atua carrying Ranger and going into Carpentry, I waited for the rest to arrive, then handed the key over to Morgan, and we all went our seperate ways. Well, I went through orange alongside Roland and Nico, but they both went their own ways as I cut through the dorm and went out the north. I wanted to check that code in Green for myself, and quickly popped through to the Law Office to find it - nobody dead at the time there. After that, I left and looped around the east side of the Orange Building so I could get into Explosives Storage via the hole in the wall. There, I grabbed some explosives - better to be prepared for what Atua may have in store.
After that, I went over to the street between Yellow and Orange, and went up said street. I saw Akira and North Star leaving the Carpentry and going to the Saloon, and Jessica heading to the east. Hollywood Bowl entered the Blue Building's lobby, and I went into Purple. There, I went up to the second floor and spent a while gathering the documents in the Mayor's Office together. I wanted to have a record of everything I could about Spencer Edwards for return to the BPI. At this point, I'm convinced he's a person of interest we need to track down.
I finished by climbing out and storing them on the roof, and after that, I climbed back down, went over to my dorm, and returned to bed.

Haah... So, here we are, back where it all started. Can't believe I'm starting to get nostalgic for the worst bar I've ever set foot in, but I guess I can't complain about free drinks at the end of the day. Helps dull the gunshot wounds a bit, even if this stuff's been sitting here for over a century now.
Yeah, you could say I'm a little worse for wear - but I told you I'd make it through. Probably deserved it anyway, so I'm not about to complain. 'Least some of you followed my instructions, even if the bodies piled up today tell a different story than the one I would've liked. Ah... well, shoulda' expected that the whole thing was a pipe dream. Fair play to those of you who actually did show though - means I can trust you with what I found out tonight.
Whether you just wanna get outta here, or whether you wanna help me take out the big man himself... Either way, can't say you'll be disappointed.
![[Image: rolandsmile2_1_eyeso3.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1735953430/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandsmile2_1_eyeso3.png)
There was only one place at the start of the night that we hadn't scrubbed clean top to bottom... and that's why I assembled a crew out by the Graveyard at the start of the night. One way or another, we were breaking into that Red Basement and snatching up its information too. The way I saw it, it was our best chance. Hell, maybe our only chance.
So we met out there, the five of us. Six if you count the bird. Morgan, Nico, McJango, Evangeline, and myself. 'Course, the canary was hanging onto McJango like his life depended on it, which didn't seem like the uh... best matchup if the little guy was hoping to survive, but I guess it's not my place to judge. Ranger was here too, doing something with the gravestones - so we had to wait until he made himself scarce before we got down to business.
![[Image: rolandnormal_uwrx9r.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1733725563/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandnormal_uwrx9r.png)
...It was kinda like what the cat depicted in that drawing of his, though I'm not sure how I feel about my portrayal. 'Least I didn't end up having to be the dog. I get enough of that kinda treatment from a... friend of mine.
The idea was that we were gonna scour the green and red buildings for any trace of that code's second half. We figured it had to be in one of 'em, so we split up and went hunting for the thing. Evangeline and Nico headed for red, while the rest of us headed up to Green. Dunno what everyone else got up to, but I grabbed some smokes from the Tobacconist and went hunting in the Law Office.
Didn't take me too long to find what I was looking for. Guess this place was a dead zone though, wasn't much of a shocker that it went unnoticed. After I got the second half of the code, I got outta there though. Someone in a sports jacket and baggy pants was mean-mugging me from the Laundry room, and I wasn't really in the mood to figure out what their deal was.
![[Image: rolandhuh_qfttay.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1735953430/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandhuh_qfttay.png)
Well, we all got together after that and left, meeting back up with the other two at the Cemetery. Didn't seem like they found anything in Red, but that was alright. I already had everything I needed.
I wanted to grab a security measure first, just in case someone tried to cut off my limbs or something in the Saloon later - so I headed into Orange after that. Only Nico and Evangeline came with me, but they went their own way inside. The cat went to Yellow, I guess to prep for the "main event". I'll gloss over the trek here, because I didn't see anyone at all - but I went through the Orange and Yellow basements to the Purple basement to grab myself a taser from the Crimson Eye Supplies. I was gonna give it to the cat so he could zap anyone who tried anything nasty.
![[Image: rolandugh_zzncwg.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1733725229/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandugh_zzncwg.png)
Making it through the Liturgic Processing room though... Would rather not talk about what's goin' on in there. Don't know what I expected to happen with Zalsarona, but... whatever was going on in there, it didn't look good. Wasn't like any Distortion I've ever seen, or even an Abnormality. Whatever she's turning into... that's something else entirely.
![[Image: rolandnormal_uwrx9r.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1733725563/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandnormal_uwrx9r.png)
Needless to say, I got what I needed and got out. Whole thing gave me the creeps.
I met back up with Morgan in the Yellow basement, and the two of us tried the combined code on the door. I expected about as much, but sure enough it swung right open. Inside, I'd say it was probably the smallest basement yet. Just one main room really, some kind of Monitoring Station decked out with a bunch of gauges and dials and sensors that I didn't really understand.
Figured it wasn't worth paying any attention to, but I did find a couple research pages, so I gave 'em a look...
![[Image: rolandsmile_k8c98v.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1733725229/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandsmile_k8c98v.png)
...And I hit the jackpot!
Turns out, everything here was all about the golden boy himself. Shoulda' figured with the way our masterminds were interested in him - and his history in Silver Junction itself. We can finally put one question to rest though, and that's the question of how we're supposed to kill a god. The reason? Well... It's because Atua isn't a god at all once you strip away all his shiny decor. He's not even close. He's a construct, formed from "Liturgic Esotera" unknowingly bequeathed by his worshippers over the years.
Back where I come from, there's a word for things like him. I've mentioned them before: Abnormalities, supernatural creatures born from myths, legends, and other concepts widespread in the City. Manifested by humanity's collective consciousness. Guess you probably have your own name for things like that - but that's that, and this is this. Just going off of what I know first-hand.
![[Image: rolandhuh_qfttay.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1735953430/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandhuh_qfttay.png)
Point is, they're dangerous bastards, but not invincible. It's possible enough to put one of 'em in the ground - even if only temporarily. My guess is, Atua's mostly the same - which means he's ripe for an ass kicking. Bud proved he can take damage, so all we gotta do is keep on following his ideals, yeah?
Anyway, I put those notes down and turned to the other side of the room. Something caught my eye...
![[Image: door_zasph3.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1748756464/Wild%20West%20KG/door_zasph3.png)
There was... some kind of glowing force field, and behind it... a door. Seemed to be the very last door in this entire place. Whatever was behind that, the way I saw it, it had to be something good. Only problem was, that barrier was tough as nails.
Tried touching it, charging into it, giving the thing a swift kick... No luck with any of it. I recognize the energy it was giving off though, felt the same as standing near Atua himself, or even one of his ghosts. It was some kinda... liturgic barrier. More magic science junk from the Crimson Eye. Hah... just my luck that I'd get this far without a way in... Well, until I had an idea.
![[Image: rolandhuh_qfttay.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1735953430/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandhuh_qfttay.png)
I figured Morgan was a ghost, and he was all Liturgic because Atua's the one who brought him back. Thought it was worth seeing if he'd be any help, so I gave him a shove right into it. Must not be as dumb as I look, because he passed through like there was nothing there.
He managed to find the control panel on the other side, and we switched the thing off. And there we were, right before the door that was sure to hold the secret to fixing this whole mess. I took a step forward, and read the placard next to the door...
![[Image: storage_xi0xht.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1748801730/Wild%20West%20KG/storage_xi0xht.png)

...A storage closet.
All that... for a storage closet. No secret labs, no underground train, no special weapon to kill Atua with... just a useless, stinking janitorial closet. I almost went insane, I almost snapped and started beating Morgan with the desk chair in here... but that wasn't enough. No, I needed to see this with my own eyes, to lay my gaze upon the closet's worthless contents and feel a hatred matching only that of what I feel for Atua.
So I opened the door, threw it open with a slam.
![[Image: rolandlaugh_jmz5lq.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1735953430/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandlaugh_jmz5lq.png)
And I hit the jackpot! Again!
I mean, it was a closet. Buncha' brooms, mops, gloves, a few buckets. But there was something else in here too - something that I think you guys are gonna get a kick out of. It might not be a weapon to kill Atua, but it's our ticket outta here once the deed is done. 'Course, it's not as easy as a teleporter or some kinda secret tunnel - but it's something.
Doubt it'd have the impact it did on me if I just told you though, so you should check it out yourself.
![[Image: rolandsigh_jjwkvk.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1733725464/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandsigh_jjwkvk.png)
...Well, I couldn't be too overjoyed. Still had one more thing to do. It was time to pay the piper, if you know what I mean. I had a date with destiny, up in the saloon. I might not be able to die, but that doesn't mean I'm excited to eat pavement or anything.
Morgan and I headed up through the mines again, and I went over to the Saloon. I must be a popular guy, because McJango, Panimajesh, Ace Ventura, Akira Kogami, North Star, and Nanao were already there, waiting for me. Guess I should be honored to have this many people out for my blood - or at least, out to either save their own ass or just watch mine get kicked.
North Star was the first to step up. Handed me a loaded gun, had one himself too obviously. He wanted a duel, straight and fair. I wasn't about to deny him that, that's more of a fighting chance than I expected anyone to give me. We did our thirty paces, but I wasn't fast enough on the draw and I took one to the chest. Passed out there on the floor...
![[Image: rolandnormal_uwrx9r.png]](https://res.cloudinary.com/douwhkm19/image/upload/v1733725563/Wild%20West%20KG/Talksprites/rolandnormal_uwrx9r.png)
Got up a little while later to the sight of Jessica, also fixing for a duel. I swear, all this lady does is try to fight me. It didn't go any better this time though, even when she tried mid-fight to jam pills down my throat. Come on, what kind of murder attempt is that, anyway? Does that even count?
Hah, well... I dunno if it was part of her plan or if she was accomplicing for someone - but I got mowed down by a full-speed horse basically right afterwards... and then I took two more rounds to the chest from Akira when I stood up from that. Like I said, i can't die, so I got up from that eventually too - only to have Akira smack me across the face and call me a bitch.
Hey, I don't think she has room to talk here... she's a killer too, you know...

Well, she was a good sport, anyway - because she grabbed me a beer right afterwards.
My whole body felt like I'd been fed through a meat grinder, but once that cool drink passed my lips... Haah... I managed to recoup enough energy to make it upstairs to the Hotel and pass out. Let me tell you... it was the most restful sleep of my life.
Still hurt like hell when I woke up though, believe me.

Right, well... Now that I'm done with this testimony stuff for the last time... I'll show everyone the Red Basement - and the Storage Closet.
The first room is the Monitoring Station. This room contains plenty of equipment to observe and study the levels of Esotera in Silver Junction. Seems like it was a general way for the Crimson Eye to keep track of what exactly was going on with their experiments, and to ensure proper levels of Esotera were maintained.
To the west of this is the Liturgic Gate. There's not much in this room, as it was just a gate to seal the final room. Made of Liturgic energy, it could only be turned off by someone Liturgic.
The final room is the Storage Closet. Roland opens it with the unknown key handed out by Deathborn, and you troop inside. It's... a closet. That's legitimately all it is. There's some stuff on the shelves, like brooms, buckets, and other stored items.
However, after some observation, you realize there's some metal parts that are also stored here, and don't look like they belong here.
Upon examination, you have found all the missing parts of the Locomotive's engine. Installing these into the Locomotive will restore its functionality and allow you to use the train to leave Silver Junction.
As a result of this investigation, the map has been expanded. You may investigate any of these rooms in more detail.
