DAY 4 - I Fought the Law and the Law Lost
What height would you have to be at to throw the knife through the southern window and out the northern one? I-I was thinking... maybe you couldn't hit the right height if you stood outside the saloon and threw it through the southern window, so would you have to throw it from near the Passenger Lounge?

Yester day I learnt that it's tough to be sheriff without a Deputy to back you up. The most important thing for me was therefore finding a new deputy and - as soon as I got into my office, there he was... thanks again, Ranger. Now let's work together to clean up these streets, and rest in peace if you get killed.
After briefing my new deputy, I stepped into the saloon and went over to the gun store, to grab........ ..a gun. Heading back out, I spotted my former nemesis McJango playing around with some kind of pot in the corner of the room - but he seemed to be harmless, so I left him to it.
I did hang around here for a while hoping for an opportunity to arise to use my gun on an outlaw, so I waited for the place to clear out. Lynne arrived and went upstairs, and Bud followed shortly after. I also spot North Star having arrived at some point, and then McJango stops whatever he's doing and heads upstairs. Pretty busy here!
And then... BANG! BANG! Two gunshots come from upstairs. McJango... you're back in my bad books.
(EDIT: First gunshot was in the same room, second gunshot was upstairs)
North Star heads upstairs too, via the brewery stairs, then comes back down and heads over to the farrier. Too many people here to attempt, I decide, so I get started on my next plan - infiltrating Roland's little fight club. Sounds like something that could be illegal. I also grab an empty glass bottle for later.
![[Image: juyqhUd.png]](https://i.imgur.com/juyqhUd.png)
I decided to take him by surprise with an unlikely weapon, so I took off one of the saloon doors and . While I'm doing this, a train whistle sounds out. Sounds like some one finally got that thing going. Time to get out of this plac, e if you ask me!!
Once done, I head off to the prickly pear dorm - spotting Cascabela and Evangeline heading into the blue building lobby. I then spend a bit of time going through the letters I dumped out in the law office yesterday before it starts. A lot of stuff about a "Spencer Edwards" guy. Some more about the stagecoach service - apparently very reliable. No obvious reason for it to be cut off.
After this, I head off to find Hollywood Bowl, heading downstairs via the tailor - spotting North Star getting dressed up - and exiting via the dorm to the blue building. In the lobby, I find Bowl letting the late Mr. Marshall into the archives. I ask him if he's willing to film the fight club and he agrees because I'm the sheriff.
We head over to the target range, passing Akira on the carpentry stairs. I came in as Roland and Bud were fighting, but Jessica, Nico, Lynne, Cascabela, McJango, Kroos, and Deputy Ranger were all here too. Evangeline enters while Roland is fighting Nico, then Bud leaves while he fights Jessica, and Kroos leaves while he fights my deputy. It was then my turn - unfortunately, my weapon had failed me. Despite some sharp hits, Roland fought back and took me out, but offered me some advice about using doors as weapons - don't.
Watching the next few fights, Zalsarona enters with sandwiches after the next two fights, and after Roland fights North Star, Hifumi enters with more, and Lynne and McJango leave. Nico leaves after Roland fights Hifumi, and Bowl and Deputy Ranger leave after Zalsarona's fight. I decide I am bored so head over to the Saloon for the party... and who do I find lying unconscious outside, missing a hand and shot?
![[Image: WPdlfIj.png]](https://i.imgur.com/WPdlfIj.png)
Derek Stiles!! The outlaw. If I can't take him in.... then I'll make him pay for his crimes!
![[Image: 4xBKs0E.png]](https://i.imgur.com/4xBKs0E.png)
Having smashed my bottle over Derek's head, and somehow not killing him, I head into the party. Akira is singing onstage, Deputy Ranger is playing banjo, Honoka and Nico are talking and Lynne and Neil are in the audience. In honour of our dearly departed King of Clubs, I tend to the bar. I don't care that he was a murderer, he was still an alright guy, and he could pour a drink competently enough. Unfortunately, nobody came over, so I ended up mostly serving myself.
That is, until those pops happened, and then Mr Marshall went up in flames. First Deathborn, now Marshall - lot of people going up in flames. Whoever's in charge of the pyrotechnics... I hope these tragic accidents serve as a real wake up call.
Akira is sad because Marshall's death ruined her birthday, and Deputy Ranger slips outta the north exit looking embarassed. Partitio - you again?? - arrives from upstairs and he and Akira take the south exit. After a few drinks, Kroos enters from the north, then Cascabela leaves via the same way after a few drinks. After a few more, Hifumi leaves. Deputy Ranger returns for some reason and heads upstairs.
I decide to leave Kroos, Nico and Honoka to it and head out to the north, not before spotting H-Bowl filming something. I head back to the sheriff's office and put up a new wanted poster for the criminal Derek Stiles, then finally return to my bed.
Check out the new WANTED poster for Derek Stiles in the sheriff's office

The whole bedsheet is definitely more ash than around Neil.

You move back a few steps and try again, and repeat. Once you get about a third of the way to the Passenger Lounge, it becomes impossible to strike all three of window - thread - window, no matter what sort of angling or force you put behind it. The knife just crashes into something and stops or misses the thread no matter what, at that point.
What kind of lighter is the thing at the crime scene?

Bud understand was near dead man last night. Bud tell events.
After cooking and fight with detective boy, Bud go find paper. Want to learn reading. Bud pick up paper at "noose paper" and read at hotel.
Bud see dead man leave Blue Building to Saloon. Also see doctor with missing hand outside. Bud go in Saloon, only see three. Bud see birthday girl, dead man and orange hair girl.
Bud go upstairs and read paper at hotel and sleep. Hear scream, but nothing after. Bud sleep.
Bud wonder what in "fah-rear".

I-If we set up the same trap North Star made, and I sit where Neil was, and try to throw the knife so that I both hit the string and the knife gets tossed out the window... does that work? Like a suicide...

The one time you DO manage to throw the knife and cut the thread, it does hit you in the back. The knife flies through the air and lands pointing down in the stage, far from the window.
You can safely conclude that the knife could not have been thrown to hit the thread and go out the window from Neil's position.
"Alright. My account for tonight. I'm not sure how helpful it will be, but I hope it provides at least some clarity.
I woke up, and I went to Mining Equipment. I saw Reginald Fikwerther there, and I gathered some materials. And then... well. I'm going to skip over what came next. Suffice to say, it's not related to any of the events that occurred today, and it's rather important that I keep it to myself before I've had the chance to act on it. If you don't trust me, you can ask Cascabela, Madame Zalsarona, or Roland. They will confirm that what I'm omitting is not important.
After that, I went to the Sheriff's Office. The place was empty, and I was looking for a little more information on the past Sheriff. No luck. However, Cascabela saw me from the General Store, and she grabbed me and dragged me to the Blue Building's Lobby. We saw Not Shane carrying a door from the Saloon, and entered the Lobby, where North Star was talking to Hollywood Bowl. We had a productive discussion, during which Elster arrived into the Lobby and started looking around, and North Star left to the east, while Neil Marshall arrived and started talking to Bowl. I then went down to the Bank, where Nico caught up with me and spent some time talking as well in the Bank. She's friendly. I can approve of her.
That discussion aside, I then went through the Crimson Eye Lab. It's funny how open that area ended up. Not that I can blame people; if we can reveal the lab to everyone, then isn't it safer that way? I did some inspect of the Liturgic weaponry they had ready, after which I decided to go to the Target Range. Crossed over, went through Mining Equipment and upstairs, entered there. Roland was fighting Nico.
We've already covered the Dueling Contest a few times, so I'll just say that it was quite the match, Roland. I greatly enjoyed testing myself against you. I'd love to do it again, sometime.
After that, I watched the rest of the event, until Roland was shot by the unknown figure. I immediately chased after them, following them to the General Store, though I lost sight of them as they entered. When I ran in there myself I couldn't find them, so I attempted searching the Purple Building. Unfortunately, the only ones I saw at all during my search were Strong Bad and Ace Ventura in the Army Post, and the latter was out cold. I returned to my bed after that."

Doctor, it will come as no surprise at this point that another victim was lost today. What might come as one is Operator Jessica was revived through some unknown Arts today. She seems her usual self, but I get the feeling they may fade once again when night comes. It's probably effecting all of us to some degree, but I don't have much of a head for that stuff...
Mm, anyway, one of the other occupants of this place -- Roland -- hasn't seen anything impressive from us, and wanted to test our combat mettle. Battle records are hard to come by here, so I decided a training session couldn't hurt. I left my room and went to the Target Range where the exercise was to be held. But for once, I was super early. Man, if only Instructor Dobermann could see now...~! While I waited, Ranger showed up and we waited together; in the meantime, we heard a loud train whistle. He plays the banjo well too.

McJango, Bud, and then finally Roland showed up. My specialty is in ranged combat, Doctor, you obviously know that, but I gave him a solid run for his money. He might've been the ultimate victor, but at the end he said "I hope all the fights aren't this tough", and that's a compliment enough~ I think he could use some poaching for recruitment; more Guards who can take a lot of enmity are always useful, right?
The following people and fights happened in this order: Akira Kogami and Reginald Fikwerther appeared, McJango fought Roland and lost, Reginald fought Roland and lost, Cascabela appeared with some popping noises, Lynne fought Roland and lost -- hmm, come to think of it, I don't remember her coming in...~ -- Akira fought Roland and lost, Bud fought Roland and surprisingly lost, Nico Yazawa fought Roland and lost, Operator Jessica fought Roland and lost, and finally Ranger fought Roland and won. Also Hollywood Bowl showed up to film around when Bud was fighting. I missed Hollywood Bowl, Nico, and Jessica coming in too; the fighting was really immersive, Doctor~ But once Roland lost, I thought "well, that's about all I need to see here", and I left to do the rest of my investigation tonight. If you're interested, Doctor, I can recommend some of the other patrons for combat roles and onboarding here too.

I proceeded to exit north to the Bank building and entered the now-unlocked Vault down into the "Crimson Eye" Laboratory area. In the Study Records, they bring up Spencer Edwards and his "liturgic energy". Apparently it matched the signals at some places called Jabberwock Castle and the OCGA Central Facility...? No clue where those are -- but considering their interested in "liturgic" Arts, I wonder what they think of Laterano or the Infected overall...
I gathered these materials and left via Chapel and Newspaper. Head of Security Elster was entering Newspaper as I exited. She's so diligent, Doctor~ Here I headed to the party. Not only was Akira Kogami celebrating her birthday... Again... the Sankta Hifumi offered to have a little drinking party there with some cute girls too. Score~ As I entered, Cascabela was leaving.
Hifumi and I shared a few drinks, along with Not Shane, Honoka Kousakatua, and Nico; but Hifumi left so fast... Ranger entered after she left, going upstairs, and Not Shane followed her, but at that point it's not really much of a drinking party with only two others. When no one else appeared, I went to bed.

I would like to show off the stuff I found in the Crimson Eye Study Records please~
(Mar 2, 2025 at 1:10 AM)Kroos the Keen Glint Wrote: I would like to show off the stuff I found in the Crimson Eye Study Records please~You show off the material from the Study Records.
The main thing here is a profile on Person of Interest: Spencer Edwards. He's listed as having been born in 1828, spent a relatively ordinary life in the western territories, stayed out of the Civil War by moving to the unincorporated areas, and during his time in the far west, apparently become deeply interested in religion. Edwards is known to have been charismatic, fiery, and passionate, though the few remaining records say that his speeches got... stranger, over time.
Regardless of his beliefs, his Liturgic abilities were clearly strong, but it seems like they may have gotten stronger over time. Silver Junction is saturated in Liturgic energy. Far, far more than could have come from one man. Yet, with his clear predominance and leadership in the town, whatever Edwards did, he was a critical part of why it's been coated in this energy.
Recent reports indicate that this esotera signature is almost a direct match for the signatures created by two recent killing games. The first occurred at Jabberwock Castle, in central Germany; the second at the OCGA Central Facility, in northern Italy. One Angie Yonaga, high priestess of Atua, is listed as the mastermind behind both Killing Games.
The potential connections between Angie Yonaga and Spencer Edwards are still being investigated.
Spencer Edwards disappears from the historical record after Silver Junction's mysterious end in 1873, with no confirmation from any source, even government records, of his death. A picture is attached of the man, taken in 1871. He doesn't look half bad, you'd guess more 40 than 55. Quite a sharp figure in his robes. Black and gray hair, even accounting for sepia cameras. You can confirm he doesn't match any of the bodies previously discovered in the mines.
