It's a little bit to the left of his body.

You're not sure. You feel like you'd probably have to run some tests.

Place Jessica where Neil was standing and throw the lighter from the following places:

- Outside the south window
- Behind the bar
- Onstage
- From the south entrance
- From the staircase up to the restaurant

Where does the position of the lighter best match where it was found?

Also, drop a lantern nonfatally onto her (give her a helmet or something for protection) with the lighter left on top - where does the lighter land?

If left on top of a lantern near the roof, how long does the lighter stay lit?

I-I'll volunteer. It's fine...

I'll stay where Neil was so people can test lighter throws from... the sets of stairs, the southwest corner of the room, the southern window, the stage, and the lantern above?

Guess I'll follow up on "Vengeful Virgil"'s investigation up there...

Once he figures out where the lighter is, I'm gonna grab a different one while Jessica stands around where Neil was when they lit him up. I'll toss that lighter I got from the window, the stairs, and the southeast corner of the room at her. She saved my life, so I'll... try not to hit her in the eye or something.

Oh yeah, and let's light the thing and put it up in one of those paper lanterns over Jessica with a bottle of beer inside. Does the lantern burn immediately? If it doesn't, I'll toss a knife up there and drop it too. What happens, and where does the lighter go?

North Star consented to inventory checks and room checks, so we may as well see what North Star has on him and check his room for any of the following: thread, cloth, lighters, plastic candles, empty containers. I don't think it unreasonable to spare him a full room search.

"Alright, let me think...

Myself and Nico were sharing a table, and we were in the lower right area of the Saloon.

Akira and Ranger were on the stage in the upper right, performing. Akira was singing and Ranger was providing backup banjo.

Lynne, McJango, and Neil were all in front of the stage, scattered throughout the seating area. They were all still in the upper right, though.

Hifumi was by the east door, having just entered, and Cascabela was behind her.

And Not Shane was behind the bar in the upper left... and for good measure, those are the stairs that Partitio came down right after Neil died.

That's everyone. I don't recall seeing anyone in the lower left of the Saloon."

The lanterns... m-maybe Honoka can also answer this.

Did they already have thread and yarn attached to them when you were putting them up, or did you put that on while you were hanging them?

I think... Akira was saying that the lantern used in the murder could have been placed by accident if the thread was already on the lantern when it was going up - y-you know, assuming someone sabotaged the lanterns while they were on the table - but if you had to string the yarn while you were hanging it on the ceiling... then Neil's lantern had to be intentionally threaded and placed like that. Sorry... something like that. I-I'm a bit confused.

"Hey, so people were asking about me filming, right? Okay, let me explain everything from the word go. And listen, I'm not very good at being a hype man. Most of what I do on the set is demands and directions. You take what you get, Not Shane.

Anyway. I woke up, and went over to the Cemetery to ponder. Just do some thinking with the dead, you know? Bud came over, and we had a nice talk. He's got a good head on his shoulders. After that was done, I wanted to grab some old-time money. Most of that stuff is worthless paper, but some of it can be really valuable to a collector, and frankly if you force me into a Killing Game I think I'm legally entitled to take a few things with me as recompense. I spent a while sorting through all that, then went over to my film building to try and cool off.

When I got there, I saw North Star coming down from upstairs, and he wanted to talk to me about the Western. Well, I'm always down to talk about some good films, so we spoke about those for a while, during which Cascabela and Evangeline entered the Lobby and spent some time talking, and Elster came in from my office and looked around. After that, North Star went on his way, while Neil showed up, and I talked to him. He was a good guy, and it's a damn shame we lost him already. He and I discussed a couple things regarding his legal work, and then I let him into the Archives, as per his request - oh, and during that, Elster went into the Movie Theater.

After that, Not Shane showed up, and wanted me to help film, so we went together to the Target Range. You already know all that, so I don't need to go over it again. Eventually, I headed out, and decided to do some editing of the material I had so far, so I left out and went down to the Soundstage in Blue Building - oh, and Elster was in Recording when I went through there on my way. In there, I spent a while editing, until Ranger showed up and asked me to film. We left the Soundstage as Elster entered it, and then we did the film shoot - you guys all saw that film already. After that, I just went back to bed."

Okay, Lighterfest 2025. Let's do this shit with your unfortunate kitty.

You repeatedly throw the lighter at Jessica as she sits where Neil does. It looks like the lighter could reasonably end up landing where it did if thrown from the south window or the south entrance.

You drop the lantern with the lighter. Seems like it'd land in a fitting position that way, too.

If you left it on top of the lantern, it looks like it'd stay lit for a while but it wouldn't stay up for a while; there's not enough space for it to sit without either falling off after a bit or lighting the yarn holding the lantern on fire.

Putting it in the lantern with a bottle of beer while lit, the lighter stays lit for a while. It eventually sets the lantern on fire after a period of time, though. If you drop it before the lantern catches on its own, the whole thing crashes down and bursts into a flaming mess.

You check his person and room for the relevant items.

He does have some fishing line string, but that's the only thread-like object he has, and he doesn't have anything matching the other qualifiers.

No, no, I get what you're asking! You're asking "did we have to add the yarn ourselves, or was it already there and we just hung it?"

The answer is that it was already there. All the lanterns had yarn strings equipped already when we started decorating, all we did was the actual tying of the yarn to the ceiling.

You show off VENGEFUL VIRGIL.

He looks like you, but wearing a black cape, a black hat, and a black bandana. He looks pretty cool.

Anyone who saw you would still recognize you as North Star on sight.

Honoka, do you remember who was hanging decorations around where Neil died...? Or was it just evenly split...

Honoka Kosakatua
Evenly split. It was one of those things where we moved around and hung stuff as it looked nice. Like I'd go "oh! We should put a lantern there" and I'd put one of my lanterns, and then Akira would add a streamer over here, and so on. We all worked on the entire room.

Um... I'm not sure if we checked the Tailor, so maybe do that? I think it got a lot of use last night... and it was murder-relevant, so we may as well look.

Also, where would you find plastic candles here...?

Partitio Yellowil
Hang a lighter with a lantern with a bottle hidden in it, then knife throw until it falls. Does the lighter end up with dings and dents and whatnots consistent with the lighter found near Neil?

You check out the Tailor. Several pieces of clothing, thread, a sewing kit... a bunch of stuff is missing. However, aside from all the removed items, you can't find anything special here.

Plastic candles could be found in the General Store or the Schoolhouse.

It looks like this would leave some dings and dents, yes. You can't prove this is what left those dents, but you can disprove it can't have left that pattern.

The General Store... there's yarn and plastic candles missing, right? A-Anything else?

There's yarn and plastic candles missing.

You can't tell everything that's missing from the General Store, because people have been raiding a lot of it over the game. If you ask for anything specific we are happy to supply.
