Where does the position of the lighter best match where it was found?
Also, drop a lantern nonfatally onto her (give her a helmet or something for protection) with the lighter left on top - where does the lighter land?
If left on top of a lantern near the roof, how long does the lighter stay lit?

I-I'll volunteer. It's fine...
I'll stay where Neil was so people can test lighter throws from... the sets of stairs, the southwest corner of the room, the southern window, the stage, and the lantern above?

Guess I'll follow up on "Vengeful Virgil"'s investigation up there...
Once he figures out where the lighter is, I'm gonna grab a different one while Jessica stands around where Neil was when they lit him up. I'll toss that lighter I got from the window, the stairs, and the southeast corner of the room at her. She saved my life, so I'll... try not to hit her in the eye or something.

Oh yeah, and let's light the thing and put it up in one of those paper lanterns over Jessica with a bottle of beer inside. Does the lantern burn immediately? If it doesn't, I'll toss a knife up there and drop it too. What happens, and where does the lighter go?
Okay, Lighterfest 2025. Let's do this shit with your unfortunate kitty.
You repeatedly throw the lighter at Jessica as she sits where Neil does. It looks like the lighter could reasonably end up landing where it did if thrown from the south window or the south entrance.
You drop the lantern with the lighter. Seems like it'd land in a fitting position that way, too.
If you left it on top of the lantern, it looks like it'd stay lit for a while but it wouldn't stay up for a while; there's not enough space for it to sit without either falling off after a bit or lighting the yarn holding the lantern on fire.
Putting it in the lantern with a bottle of beer while lit, the lighter stays lit for a while. It eventually sets the lantern on fire after a period of time, though. If you drop it before the lantern catches on its own, the whole thing crashes down and bursts into a flaming mess.

You check his person and room for the relevant items.
He does have some fishing line string, but that's the only thread-like object he has, and he doesn't have anything matching the other qualifiers.

Did they already have thread and yarn attached to them when you were putting them up, or did you put that on while you were hanging them?
I think... Akira was saying that the lantern used in the murder could have been placed by accident if the thread was already on the lantern when it was going up - y-you know, assuming someone sabotaged the lanterns while they were on the table - but if you had to string the yarn while you were hanging it on the ceiling... then Neil's lantern had to be intentionally threaded and placed like that. Sorry... something like that. I-I'm a bit confused.

No, no, I get what you're asking! You're asking "did we have to add the yarn ourselves, or was it already there and we just hung it?"
The answer is that it was already there. All the lanterns had yarn strings equipped already when we started decorating, all we did was the actual tying of the yarn to the ceiling.
