yeah

if anything i feel like a more useful metric would be "views that aren't you" rather than "views that aren't the original poster". "views that aren't the original poster" only seems like it would be useful to the original poster. to anyone else, the view count would be both inaccurate and useless.
IMO the view count is entirely useless and could just be removed altogether
I dunno about the rest of you but I never even read view counts, they're arbitrary-looking numbers that don't really provide any useful information and just take up room

I only look at view counts when I post a new topic and Get Excited For Replies. I have to keep a number in my head of how many times I re-read my own post (for editing, re-reading to see if I worded it alright, maybe adding a new post, etc).
Also this is influenced by the fact that (at least back in the day) YouTube would allow you to add views to your own videos also. There's no reason it should allow you to, and I feel the same about forums really. But I guess nobody else really cares so it's not that important.

I think the issue is mainly that the OP's views have to be included for the number to be accurate. It's already not useful as an accurate number, so having an innacurate one is probably undesirable.
This thread has actually made me hate the view counts though. I think everyone else uses them in the same way - the first few before you get any replies can be exciting, but then as soon as you have even one reply, the view count becomes pointless.

What I'd like to do is get rid of the view count column, and ONLY if a thread has 0 replies, show the view count in parentheses next to the 0
Went ahead and did that, if a bunch of people miss the whole column dedicated to view counts then I'll put it back later
