Metroid: The Text Adventure (Day Two)

You are Samus Aran, Space Warrior. You have just landed on Planet Zebes, and crash-landed down a long empty shaft into the Brinstar area. Now, your suit is controlled remotely by some strange aliens. Your only hope is for them to make sure you can defeat Mother Brain in time, before her evil plan comes to fruition.

To your left, you can see a long corridor stretching away into the distance. To your right, you can see a series of steps that go high enough to block your vision. Above you is a long shaft that leans back to the surface of Zebes.

What do you do?

In video games, it's wise to scope out all paths before going far into them, just in case a cutscene renders the other paths unreachable.

With that said, I think Samus should check out the left path, as long stairs are usually an omen to some sort of fight. Don't think we can reach that shaft up there, either.

Test-fire your weapons, we want to be sure we won't have any jams when we need them

in the event that any sort of tall roadblock is reached, follow the advice of the ancients:
JUMP GYPSY

C'MON JUMP

>take the left path

You go down the left path for a while. It's a pretty normal cavern filled with enemies, and partway through you pass over what looks to be unstable ground. At the end of the pathway, you run into a small gap at floor level, the only way visible through a wall.

>test-fire your weapons

You aim your arm cannon at a nearby Zoomer and shoot repeatedly. The Zoomer is completely blown away. Everything's working just fine here.

>C'MON JUMP

Heeding the words of your ancestors, you jump in the air and do a somersault. As you do so, you spy what looks to be a discoloration in the rock of the ceiling here. Bizarre! You also see a cave above the small gap, but it appears to be empty.

>Jump Around

Jumping around wildly, you hit your head on the ceiling and dislodge one of the blocks. It falls, revealing an Energy Tank. You pick it up - who knows when it'll come in handy?

>Crawl

Lying down on the ground, you attempt to crawl through the gap.

Your attempt is an overwhelming success. Congratulations, you're on the other side of the gap.

i query the suit for installed upgrades such as defensive capabilities, movement assistance, or weapons. i also attempt to remotely access the gunship, and obtain any mission parameters and relevant information from the gunship's databanks (and if the gunship has any remote control or assistance capabilities, or if there are any provisions on the ship such as emergency weapons).

Check the place out, any cool stuff?

Oh, do a kickflip too. It's an easy trick that nets you a couple points when you're skating to another ramp.

>Scan yourself

You investigate your capabilities. You have a Power Suit designed to allow for quick movement around the environment, and a Power Beam that lacks any special status, but can easily destroy most enemies in the area with sustained fire. With regards to mission parameters, you determine that you need to locate and destroy Ridley and Kraid, after which you can attack and defeat Mother Brain. The gunship has the ability to remotely bomb an area, but this is only functional if you're on the surface of the planet.

>Look around the area

You look around the area. There's a large shaft heading up above you, this one with several slopes built into it. A tunnel continues further down the path, ending in a door.

>Go open the door and enter

You do so. You find a weird statue in the room and touch it. As you do, you feel some new power flow through you.

Wave Beam, get! Now you can shoot through walls.

Jetamo
Shoot through the nearest wall just for fun.

Then, head back to the previous area and jump up and continue explorin'.

>Shoot through the wall.

You do so! It feels fun.

>Put on your robe and wizard hat

You do not possess these upgrades!

>Scan for Triple Fudge Packin' Amy's

You only find ordinary chocolate bars in a pile in the corner, dismissing them as not worth your time.

>Climb back up the shaft.

Doing this, you stop halfway during your climb. There is a small gap to the left, halfway up a wall, and a door to the right. The shaft continues higher.

It is now Day 3.

First, go back to get the chocolate bars. They're like reserve tanks, you never know when you might need them.

Then proceed back up the shaft and go into the small gap, if at all possible.

I scan any local flora or fauna for any potentially interesting information, and also do a search to find where the robe & wizard hat might be.

>Get the chocolate bars

You rethink your previous decision, and go back to collect the chocolate. Good work!

>Go back up and try to get through the gap

You attempt to make it through the gap, but your suit just isn't designed for you to crawl through a gap in midair. A shame.

>Scan the local flora and fauna

Did you know that the Zebesian Vine is one of the most dangerous vines in the entire galaxy? It can kill people by touch!

>Search for the robe and wizard hat

According to scan data, these items are most likely located in Ridley's Lair.

All right, let's go through that "door to the right" mentioned earlier, then.

Assuming the crossout on "2 actions per day" means that's lifted.
