everyone in this town ubers everywhere so i put my cart next to the other ones strewn haphazardly outside

putting your cart back is the most basic of basic civilization tests

there's no real penalty for not doing it and no one will confront you over it, but it's so easy to do and just good manners

if you don't, you are genuinely subhuman

One time, I forgot to put the cart back in. When I was driving out of the lot, I saw from my rear view mirror that a hobo ran off with it. Anyways, I had a really cool party after that event and that story was a good icebreaker.

Yes. In fact, I'll often go the extra mile by either taking the shopping cart back into the store lobby, give it to any employees rounding up carts if they're nearby, or leave the cart inside the store lobby after purchase if I don't have many groceries.
