A more expensive product means it's almost certainly going to be better, less money wasted on shipping is a good thing.

Option 2 easy. If I am buying the $30 product I know I am paying $30 from the start. If I buy the $20 one, I'm gonna feel slapped in the dick when I go to check out and see an extra ten bucks stapled on.

$20 + $10 is better because it gives me more confidence that the shipping charge is what it actually costs them to ship the item, whereas $30 is just a made-up number that probably lets them pocket a few extra bucks by eating the shipping costs and advertising it as free.

In this example it doesn't make sense but in most cases it would be more like $20 + $8.99

In the case of a manufacturer owning the storefront, it's almost always the opposite where the high shipping cost is them earning a quick buck. And then because they know the shipping is sky high compared to what the customer expects from online shopping these days, they'll cut you a "deal" with free shipping on large orders of $50+ or whatever where you'll have to buy three of the $20 item and trick yourself into thinking you're getting a deal when in fact you just bought three times as many of what you needed. If the price is lower on their own storefront compared to Amazon or something it's probably because they can pull another trick on top of that where because the third party storefront isn't getting a cut of the sale they can make the price lower but then skim the shipping as well as noted before.

Free shipping by default is a method to stay competitive with other storefronts and possible through scale, you're not generally going to see it from most manufacturers unless they ship a LOT of product.

The only way this thread makes any sense is in the context of shopping online for a product and coming across two potential choices, one company's offering that is $20 with $10 shipping and another company's offering which is $30

Which is a pretty relatable scenario that I feel people have run into often and doesn't need elaboration. Not every product variation from different companies is going to be identical, there is going to be ups and downs to each choice.
