Super Mario Boards
The logo is just the Mario font so it's not even worth bothering copying over. This is the first community I'm going in BLIND so I won't have any interesting Lore here.
It's got a pretty boring theme, but I noticed it's also running SMF. Working with SMF themes is a huge pain, so to get it to this point takes some serious patience, so on a technical level I'm impressed. Unfortunately the design probably isn't going to wow anyone else. However, it's nice and clean and easy to browse, so can't really complain too much. Got a bit of Mario details here and there so you know you're on The Mario Boards.
Anyway what the heck even IS the mario boards?? The header has a wiki, chat, and then the typical forum stuff. The wiki takes me to... Super Mario Wiki. OK I think I get it now. this is the board for the Super Mario Wiki. I fucking love the Super Mario Wiki so now I'm pretty excited to check this place out.
The chat opens up a mibbit frame on the wiki, so they're still running IRC as the primary chat (or at least the advertised one). Uniju must love this place- and hey there they are in the members online.
Board-wise there's a bunch of forums. I'm a bit confused as there's both a General Discussion and a Off-Topic Board?? but the description lets me know the General Discussion is just for Mario Wiki/Boards/etc discussion, and Off-Topic is for everything else. Kind of strange but I can handle it. There's another board exclusively for discussing Mario Lore, which maybe MInus World might want to do. also a subforum for Smash Bros. lore?? actually you know what fuck subforums im not going to go throug hthem. The other forums seem to be like Mario Fanworks, a Help forum, an awards forum, and a few Gaming forums so the Gamers don't feel left out. Not a bad selection of boards for a community to have if you like Mario.
Let's check out the rules. There's 17 regular rules, 3 signature/avatar rules, and a bunch of other shit. the format reminds me of MFGG rules, which I'm not too big a fan of. They probably have their own Kritter who should be banned but nobody wants to ban an old man. There's apparently something called Minimodding here, which sounds like a bad mix of forums and mario power-ups- good thing there's a rule against it. hold on what the fuck
There's also a link to a FAQ and a Privacy Policy. A privacy policy sounds good as hell but it's probably just the thing they put because Google makes them do it for ads. I'll check out the FAQ though. There's a terrifyingly huge list of member ranks with post counts no mere mortal could ever reach. The FAQ has some useful technical details but doesn't give me much of a feel for the forum. So I'll look elsewhere.
I guess the best place to figure out what a community is about is their off topic board. What do the ytalk about when they run out of Marios?? There's a TON of pinned threads here, all really boring ones such as 'what are you listening to' and 'put all vacation posts here' and even a dedicated birthday thread? this forum seems to hate its members ; you cant even have your own damn birthday thread. Also they have a thread where you can post if you accomplished something?? So nobody is allowed to celebrate other things either. Mario Boards HATES celebrations, you heard it here first folks. Below the pinned threads are probably the most boring threads I've ever seen. "What's the weather like" are you kidding me.
I dont know what to check out next so I'll call it quits.
Overall it looks like this board is slightly more interesting than MFGG as its more community focused but a snorefest. MFGG has the nostalgia value for many of us, so I'd still rather post on MFGG. Nice to see a boring place like this can produce some great members though. Looking forward to what other communites are out there that I've been missin gout on
