The Magnus Archives is a speculative fiction podcast presented as a series of audio tapes recorded for the archiving of potentially paranormal incidents and read by the Head Archivist Jonathon Sims of the Magnus Institute. Each episode presents a different tale from a different time, place, and witness who lived to give their statement for further investigation. A meta narrative develops as the episodes progress and becomes an enticing and larger part of the podcast.

The Magnus Archives is planned to end at Season 5 and should air 2020. Each season is 40 episodes aired weekly on Thursdays.

This might be the best piece of horror that I've taken to in a decade. Thus far I've done two full listens and the show has immense rewatch value due to the building meta narrative and complicated pieces at play. Several episodes especially piqued my interest as particularly horrifying, with Hive, ep 32, being one from the first season for me personally.

We finally have some info on Mary's husband after his minor mention previously, and a supposed way to sever connections to the powers. I don't think there is a physical way for Jon to remove his eyes on his own based on his attempted finger removal, so Martin's analysis of the situation seems apt. I don't recall the timeline but I don't think Gertrude was lying about not knowing Gerry at this point. I was hoping for more consequences being presented of Daisy's return to the Hunt after the Vampire Hunter and Montauk arrived.

As a note, I think TMA really takes off as showing the writer's chops with Vampire Hunter, episode 10. It was the episode that really showed me the interesting developments and concepts the show was taking on.

I figured something was up with Elias, but not that he is Magnus inhabiting other bodies. Makes sense with what Mr. Keay had said. I was even convinced by Martin's faux loyalty. Fucking NotThem are back, and the Hunters returning then is just hell for Daisy and Basira. So much has happened and we probably won't even see the after of it until next season's start in 2020.

Season 4 has ended. What a tantalizing cliff hanger. I seriously hope that more of Minus World gives this series a shot. It starts off very much as a mundane anthology of spooks, but you are already gathering up pieces and information that is very important early on for the entirety of the series.

Today's episode, the first of the final season, was 161: Dwelling.

Jesus, the original Archives staff just being friendly coworkers hits hard. The revelation that Gertrude wanted Sasha to follow her is intriguing since she seemed to never mention anything about the position being a goal or anything seeming negative towards the Archivist. I suppose competency was what Gertrude saw in her then. Considering Sasha's statement during season 1, she definitely would've been more successful at the start than Jon with his constant kidnapping and self-harm.

I'm terribly looking forward to seeing the state of the world and the condition of Basira and Daisy.

already getting some bleak hints on the state of the world between it being impossible to tell what day it is and not feeling hunger. at first i assumed this was an armageddon where everyone would die; but instead, it sounds like the powers want people to stay alive, and somehow that’s even more terrifying

I listened to 121 while cooking dinner tonight. I was pretty lost since it's been a while. Is there a summary of S1-S3 that I could check again or a wiki that lists the important bits without spoiling S4?

Further worldbuilding and recordings from before the start of the podcast. God, Sasha was such a pleasant character and its being established that Sasha was expected and planned to replace Gertrude had Elias not seen Jon as the vessel for the ritual is really sad. And it really takes that knife and twists it. Apparently everyone knew about Martin's faked CV and I adore that they just played along for his sake.

The quarantine theme of these early episodes are so well timed for how our world moved in response to Covid-19. I'm glad the story took this time to reminisce.
