Gen 1 actually had the worst designs overall
They were all just so plain and boring

Super Mario Bros 3, while fun enough, is derivative and entirely overrated. It's the most generic Mario title when played from a modern perspective.

I highly disagree and have kind of an opposite opinion.

I feel that SMB3 is actually the pinnacle of classic Mario, while Super Mario World was a giant step back. While SMB 3 had a huge variety of colorful environments and powerups, SMW takes all of that and hacks it to pieces. You like deserts? The sky? A world made entirely out of pipes?

Too bad, you get grasslands, a cave, and some forest. Maybe a mountain if you're lucky. You like the hammer suit? Frog suit? Turning into a statue? Nah man, you get the cape and Yoshi

i think the devs figured yoshi'd compensate for the way less diverse powerup meta but he only kinda did

also isn't mario world notoriously kinda unfinished

yeah mario world is unfinished according to miyamoto but is the best 2d mario

its got the best controls but naaaah mario 3's got perfect challenge which is more important to me

also mario 2 doesn't get enough respect

smb2usa is absolutely fantastic and is another title that is better than smb3 :^)

the level variety makes SMB3 way more fun to replay for me

unfinished or not, getting to the fucking sky is way more hype than grassland number 4
