Considering that there are people that typeset manga I don't really see this being -too- big of an issue. I don't know how much text is in the game though.

Also only replacing textures sounds like an easy job on the hacking side of things.

The replacement of images and textures itself can be easy, unless the game does some fucky shit with it.

The thing is, what if the translation now needs two pages of text for what was one? You're now having to try and force in a new image and telling the game to call up that second image only when that first image was finished and still scroll properly through conversations.

Depending on the engine and the way images are handled it's going to be hard, or near impossible.

It's images though so you have the advantage of being able to just make the text smaller (within reason) if you have trouble fitting things. With textboxes you have a certain character limit that you're absolutely restricted to. If the game uses a TTF or OTF font format then it's not too hard to swap it to something else. If a game uses a bitmap font you're pretty much SOL.
