DAY 3 - The Lantern, the Witch, and the Crimson Eye

You know, I'm not happy about this case. Tsavorae, eh, whatever. The boss, yeah, he'd been taking the risks. But Marisa? Come on, I liked Marisa!

So, I might be playing this one down the middle, but I would looove to see you get that one right.

Alright! Woke up, with a few things on my mind tonight. Went to my favorite place, Mineral Storage. I spent some time sorting the rocks, took a handful with me, and I talked to Ranger for a while. I think we hit it off well. Kroos cut through during this - dunno what she was up to, but I support her. After that, I left through the dorm, and saw Bud by the Saloon. I like Bud. He's got good style. We arm wrestled! He won, but man, does he make it close. I told him to have a great day, then went off to check out the Sheriff's Office. Wanted to see if I could get one of those rewards despite not being the host.

Went in, wasn't anyone, but then Akira shows up. She wanted me to record a message of support for the Killing Game so... that's what I did! It was pretty good, I gotta say. She should it show it off later! After that, went right back down, found that Partitio was setting up a field. I didn't know what he was planning to do with it, but I gotta say, I like it. We oughta work this place as long I've got you here, right?

Anyway, he asked me to pick him up some stuff up at the end of the night, so I agreed. Headed back down the main street, saw Evangeline there as she went into that Blue Building. I swung down and checked out the Cemetery to see if anyone had left some neat stuff, and it didn't look like it. Kinda sucked! Went from there to Carpentry and back upstairs, saw Deathborn heading from the Orange Building to the train area on my way up. After that, I just decided to practice my rock-throwing for a while. So I started hucking rocks at the targets in the target range.

King of Clubs showed up and talked to me - we had a good conversation. After that, I went down... and found her. Marisa, dead. You know, I get that it's gotta be anything goes... but next time, can you not kill the people I like? But I had a job to do, so I went over to the Mineral Storage, grabbed some diatomaceous earth, and carried it back to him. Handed it off, then went back to my dorm and turned in.

It doesn't look like we actually took a close look at them, so go through the burnt boxes in Film Equipment. What's in them? Anything unusual or just burnt film strips and the like?

You look through the burnt boxes in Film Equipment. What jumps out at you is that there's a few pieces of surviving old equipment that have exposed wiring. You think you could probably see an electric spark happening.

You look carefully at the burnt film. It doesn't stand out to you, but Hollywood Bowl comes over and takes a close look at it.

Hollywood Bowl
Wait a second... this is nitrate film! I knew the place had some, I didn't realize it was in these boxes. No wonder that fire was hard to handle, that stuff burns like nothing else!

I guess I'll retrace my steps from the bank to right outside the saloon in case that helps for a check. Let's see how long it takes.

You walk from the bank to the south side of the Saloon. It doesn't take very long, and you have either the door to Mining Equipment or the street between Yellow and Orange in your vision the whole time.

"Alright looks like it's that time when no one else has any ideas so whatever, I may as well throw anything to the wall I can think of right? Let me sit down where the card game happened and watch Lynne and I dunno, whoever wants to pretend to fuck a gal up with a rock and then walk out like Reginald did and see if the timing works."

"...What?"

"Man, I'm actually sort of an expert on these you know? Yeah, some girl from my old high school actually died in one the other year. Okay yeah, she graduated the year before my freshman year and I basically didn't know her except her cousin being one of my upperclassmen but that doesn't matter, it was real tragic, yah get me?"

This... wasn't in my calculations. Deathborn's dead already, his assistant has taken over... There's more to this than I ever predicted.

But that's for later. Right now, solving this trial. I'm not sure how helpful my account will be, but I'll do my best to provide.

I woke up, intending to do some investigation of the underground. That part was covered by Roland later, so I'll refer you to him, but to start with, I decided I wanted to search the Green Building. The industriousness nature of it means people don't seem to look over it as strongly, so I wanted to give it a proper visit. I inspected the Newspaper, but didn't find much more beyond the parts everyone has already discussed, about that year. 1873.

If there's one thing we can conclude, whatever is significant about Silver Junction happened in 1873. I poked around upstairs as well - didn't find much in most of the rooms, but I did find an interesting little tidbit in the Law Office. I'm keeping that one to myself for now, though. I went down by the Bank stairs, and met Lynne, right before she went into the Vault. She's got a good head on her shoulders, and I think she'll make for a good investigator. I exited the bank, seeing Mizzlebip riding the Black Horse to the south, and went over to the Blue Building. Saw Momoyo heading down the street as I entered.

When I went inside, I looked through the Movie Theater for a little while to see if there was anything useful there - I found an interesting poster, but no trace of the film in question. I stepped back out, and Hifumi was there, coming down the stairs. I entered the Executive Office and met Roland and Zalsarona, and the horse. The investigation went as described - Marisa running in on the three of us in the office, searching the underground lab, joining Hifumi at the mines, finding President Grant's seal, and everything. After we climbed out, I went to the Chapel to look over something, then went through the Newspaper and back to the dorm.

You do it again, with Hollywood Bowl waiting inside Mining Equipment and Honoka running like Marisa did. No matter the permutation of timing, you determine it would be impossible for Hollywood to arrive first from the north without Lynne seeing.

Like every night so far, I star my day in my dorm. Get things ready and start to head out. I decided to head out the back and look around back there. As I head out there, I see someone heading up the back stairs of the Blue Building. After a little while, get done looking around behind the dorm and start to head back in. As I do, I see someone come down the back stairs of the Blue Building and head west. I go back into the dorn and then exit out the front towards the Yellow Building.

As I make my way towards the building, I see Marisa run towards the Orange Building because the Yellow Building is strangely sealed. How very odd. So I change plans and head over to the General Store and grab myself a pack of cards. I then head back to the Yellow Building and chill out outside the building playing some solitaire. I notice McJango hanging around as I do this. Along with Akira chatting with Honoka. I see Ace Ventura and Lynne and I invite them to play cards with me. Once I notice Akira and Honoka are done chatting, I invite them to play as well. After that I manage to, in order, get Strong Bad and then Neil Marshal to join us playing cards. Thus ending with having seven players, including myself, enjoying games of cards.

I finally get tired, gather up the cards and head back to the Prickly Pear Dorm for some sleep. As I get there, I see a note that says "toot n poop tomorrow evening. bring newspaper" attached to the South Entrance of the dorm.

I have a few investigations to submit.

I want to check for footprints around the back stairs of the blue building.

Is there any missing newspapers from the Newspaper room?

Does the "toot and poop" note look like it came from anything in the Newspaper room?

Madame Zalsarona
Is there an open window somewhere near the back of the newspaper room?

Building on that, examine the exterior back wall of the Newspaper room, particularly on/around any of the windows. Are there any signs of someone making an unconventional entrance like climbing in through a window or scaling the side of the building?

I have some concerns about the safety of this production, the number of deaths recorded at this site in the last few days has been leaning above the average. I also have some additional concerns I will note toward the end of this report.

I requisitioned some Mining Equipment to assist in my Investigation, Partitio and Roland can attest as they were present.

I did see one of the now-deceased members of our Crew on my way back to the Telegraph Office. Marisa Kirisame, the Witch who accosted me on our first night here, by the Saloon. I'm not sure when this was but Akira had just left the Prickly Pear Dorm.

Note - It seems the Cat, McJango, has access to come and go freely from the Telegraph Office, he was leaving as I arrived, but I wasn't able to get his assistance.

During my attempts to access the office I continued to log passers by.

Arrivals/Departures Log:
<- Roland & Ace Ventura arrive
== Roland is leading a Horse, Ace Ventura is shot at
<- Hollywood Bowl arrives and begins filming the Locomotive
<- Ranger enters the Post Office
<- North Star enters the Post Office
-> Roland & Ace Ventura leave to the North
-> Hollywood Bowl leaves to the West
<- Strong Bad arrives

Ultimately, Strong Bad assisted my entrance to the Telegraph Office and I was able to analyse the Communications Silver Junction has received.

The Communications primarily consist of one "S" at Silver Junction, and one "A" from outside, discussing isolating Silver Junction from the rest of the World somehow, including some kind of Weather Control being enacted to ensure it.

This is rather concerning, Klimaforming technology being deployed against us here is no small matter.

Strong Bad only remained long enough to use the Telegram and left shortly afterwards, I was in the Telegraph office for much longer. I believe Nico Yazawa saw me when I eventually left, as well as a plowman near the Purple Building.

You don't find any footprints, but the terrain here would not retain footprints of a person regardless.

There's a couple missing newspapers.

Yes, the toot and poop note on the outside of the dorm looks like it was made from Newspaper paper.

There's an open window in the backside of the newspaper, yeah.

You don't see any marks that indicate a weird entrance.

Jajaja, so the mastermind can be beaten at his own game! What a twissst...

Shame about the other two. While you malparidos were busy killing each other, yours truly was doing sssome investigations of her own. I sssuppose you want to hear about the rest of my night too, though.

I ssstarted, of course, by going to investigate the underground laboratory. I'll abridge this part, because dear Roland already explained what's down there, and I sssaw no one until I emerged above ground once more. I passed Lynne as I went upstairs to the Law Office, where I helped myself to the legal documents. They stopped at 1873 like everything else, of course, but I ssspecifically looked for Señor Edwards' name.

It ssseems the most famous man in Silver Junction was involved in a number of legal battles, all revolving around a certain church that used to ssstand here. This building used to be like the others - a multi-purpose establishment - but was ssslowly altered per his desires. The cases brought against Ssseñor Edwards were mostly property disputes and related complaints, but he won nearly all of them...By the end of 1872, he owned the entire building, and had converted it fully into a house of worship. This church no longer existsss, but it is not difficult to guess which building here took its place, no?

El hombre que no es Shane entered as I finished, and I passed Señor Ventura in the Laundry Room; ssstaying fresh in hard times, a man after my own heart. I had planned to attend the chiquita's birthday party, but sssomeone ruined everything, so I moved on to the purple building. I did see Señor Marshall walking to blue on the way, though.

I went up to the Courthouse and saw la conejita, Kroos, just before she left. It ssseems we had the same idea; I can confirm her findings about Señor Edwards being branded a heretic...and the case being dropped. Finally, I ssstepped out into the hall and took a look at the paintings, but they were artless garbage...I sssaw Doña Zalsarona up there before I headed to sleep.

It is clear that this Edwards was a powerful figure in Silver Junction, but just how did he amassss so much influence? All the townspeoples' objections to his whims, dissscarded...Just what was he doing at that church? And what happened to it?

These questionsss must wait, I'm afraid. We have three murders to solve first.

Anything unusual / out of place in the army post (i.e. since I was there on n2)?

Let's kick the sand around a bit. Has it absorbed any blood or anything? While we're in here, let's compare a military helmet and a mortar shell casing to the wound. In each case, also try putting the object on the test body's head before hitting it.

You look at the sand. It just kinda looks like sand.

You try those, but they have the same issue as the mining helmet. It doesn't look like it works.

Does the amount of sand present look like it'd fit neatly in a coffin? Is anything under the sand? Is it in a neat pile (or was it before Roland came along) & did it lead anywhere?

Are there any old-timey army helmets or anything like that here? Any missing?

Also check the officer's club for the same.

Does the interior of the coffin or the body seem quite sandy?

Is there any sand or anything else unusual near the entrance of the Desert Sage dorm?
