Are there any old-timey army helmets or anything like that here? Any missing?
Also check the officer's club for the same.
Does the interior of the coffin or the body seem quite sandy?
Is there any sand or anything else unusual near the entrance of the Desert Sage dorm?
Checking the sand, it's a lot less than would be in a coffin, so it'd fit. It's bits of drips on the floor. You re-check the Sheriff's Office on a hunch, and confirm a little sand on the floor there too.
There are some army helmets, though none are missing.
There's some sand stuck to Tsavorae's forehead, and a bit in the coffin.
You can see a bit of sand on the Desert Sage Dorm's floor.

I want to hit Deathborn's body with the bag of sand around where Tsavorae got smacked. Does the sand bag conform to his head like the wound on hers? Does the bag burst or leave any sand?
You grab a bag of sand from the General Store. You thwack Deathborn, hard.
The sandbag deforms a bit, meaning the impact is evenly distributed. You check, and the bruise on his forehead is functionally identical to Tsavorae's. It looks like that impact would rupture the bag and let sand leak out, though it's mostly intact.
