The camera is a funny idea but I don't know of anyone who wants it. Everyone doesn't want it.

You mean you don't want to spend 50 dollars to experience the camera gimmick of Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 in your very own home? You don't want to spend 20 more dollars on the second worst Switch Mario Party for mouse and camera mini games? You don't want to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online to Zoom with all your gamer friends?

If the camera was going to be such a big gimmick they should have built it into the part of the console that peaks out of the dock and the USB camera should have been offered for more flexibility

I'll probably use the camera exactly zero times but I'm not mad it exists, Nintendo has always been behind with online functionality so it's cool to see them introduce MORE features than I wanted for once

That said I'd trade everything for analog triggers

Nintendo already charges an omega premium for controllers even beyond the insane prices the other companies try to, why do you want them to have an excuse to sell the things for even higher prices?

I'm just not looking forward to Gamer Zoom being used as a justification to raise the price of the incredibly price conscious base tier of NSO. A lot of people were using the lack of robust social features to explain the low pricing compared to competitors, and now that social features are here I have a feeling the price hikes aren't far behind. I'm surprised we're getting GameCube games on Expansion Pack at 50 dollars a year, that party is going to be over soon. Maybe killing the gold points incentive program staved that off for a minute, but there's no way we don't see a 10 dollar bump across both tiers at minimum next year.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they raised the NSO price, but I do think the increased one-time costs would be really easy to swallow if the NSO price stayed the same, so maybe they'll keep it where it's at for awhile

Oh they are absolutely raising NSO's price, they're going all out with the greedy maneuvers. Sony and MS already made it "okay" to charge ridiculous amounts for using your own internet connection to play shitty P2P, Nintendo technically has the best online service even right now which is laughable.

So long as family plans don't go anywhere I guess it won't affect me either way.

But an expensive console doesn't mean it's bad. What if it's expensive and it kicks ass

I'm not counting on the Switch 2 kicking ass to be honest, it looks like a very straight forward upgrade that's a day late and a dollar more. I'm pretty much buying it out of obligation to the Switch library I've already built up, but Nintendo made sure to take the wind out of my sails by assuring me that to get the very best out of my new system I will be paying an extra 10 to 20 bucks for every first party title I care about* (which would be any title that gets an upgrade.) Not only that, you're going to need a new microSD card for the increased storage speed, but don't worry, we've given users an incredibly pathetic 256 GB of storage that we've disingenuously illustrated as an upgrade by showing you how many more Switch 1 games you can store on your next generation console. Also, please buy new Pro Controllers because the old ones can't wake the system, please understand. It's not just expensive, it's incredibly expensive.

*Free updates have been confirmed for select titles but the list of titles suspiciously coincides with the list of titles receiving Game Chat/Game Share support so I'm expecting functionality updates rather than performance updates.

I think the console will do fine, it feels very different from the Wii U situation. I remember our collective groan when they revealed it at E3, nobody really wanted it at any price. With the Switch 2 the vibe is more "everyone really wants this and they just wish it would cost less"

I also think offloading the additional costs to games and accessories is kinda genius from a business perspective because it lowers the barrier of entry, gets people in the door so they'll pay $11 for a beer even if they grumble about it

I think it will do well -enough- but not nearly as well as the Switch 1 due to price barriers. Everyone wants one but literally no one is happy with the price of everything and I already know I'll be buying fewer impulse games for it because of the hiked prices, and that's as someone who's part of their core audience and has plenty of money to go around. I avoided replacing my drifting Switch 1 joycons until a friend happened to buy one of the newer models and I cashed in a favor to get the ones from that because they were $80 back then, (Said friend will also be sharing singleplayer Switch 2 games with me out of necessity because of, you guessed it, the sky-high prices making it unfeasible for them to get as many games) I'm sure as shit not getting any peripherals now when they're even MORE expensive. The Switch 1 pro controller was one of Nintendo's absolute worst because the main reason you'd want it was the d-pad and they NEVER fucking fixed it being terribly inaccurate. They never fixed joycon drift either across all those years! Why the fuck would anyone pay a premium for nonexistent customer support like that, or expect any better from the Switch 2?

So if my own limited experience is like that, I can only imagine how many others are going to wind up in similar situations where friends are sharing fewer games, all because they got too greedy. And how many will have to skip on the console and games entirely because of trying to fleece people in the middle of a shitty economic situation around the entire world.

Nintendo has gotten overly cocky with pricing multiple times in the past and had to slash it one way or another, it wouldn't be the first time they bend the knee over the market response.

Yeah, its commercial success isn't really up for debate at this point, I just think subjectively it will not kick as much ass as the original Switch
