yea emotional resonance is what attaches you to this kind of media in the first place and ofc that can change w how your perception does

so suddenly i felt like shit at finding out my idol was a shitter and couldn't do my usual thing of listening to music i liked to feel better

i still miss a lot of the music but i feel really bad listening to it now

I find trying to consume media from artists who aren't shitheads to be a pointless and near-impossible endeavor.

I realize that separating the art from the artist when you no longer have the bliss of ignorance is difficult, but you'd be hard pressed to find a creator who hasn't done anything shitty at one point in their history.

again I think there's a difference between "somebody was mean on the internet once" and "somebody is a sexual abuser"

Definitely, but I don't know the story or even who the guy is.

A ton of famous people are abusive, racist, sexist, etc, and while it changes the quality of their character (i.e. makes them a shitty human being) it doesn't affect the quality of their work. When what's-his-face was writing music, he probably wasn't thinking about abusing people, but about the music and how it made him feel. People are incredibly nuanced.

I can understand feeling weird or gross about it. One of my favorite bands is Guns N Roses, and it's hard not to cringe at the lines
Slur:
and

But I mean, it was the 80s and Axl Rose was being an ignorant piece of shit, something he even admits in the very same song.

I mean look at Bill Cosby, he raped a bunch of women but he still has a gigantic body of work that I'm sure many people still remember and enjoy.

It's hard not to look at people as a sum of their parts, but the fact is that a lot of people have X% of nice parts and Y% of terrifyingly horrible parts. It's good to learn to enjoy somebody's art while accepting that they're a flawed, or even awful individual - especially since what's-his-face isn't getting a dime out of you.

Maybe donate to an anti-abuse fund every once in awhile to clear your conscience? I dunno, it just sucks that music you used to consider so important is now tainted for you.

Man I don't understand this culture. How can a person have 25 animal identities? Are they identities or just characters? Do they act like them, live through them, just create them, or what? When I created my character in 2004 was I missing the point by not jerking off to it?

I'm sorry if I sound rude but I'm genuinely curious :V

as a musician they worked in a lot of genres/styles, to make identifying the music easier they gave each genre/style a different fictional "artist" and acted like a record label for them.

it was a cool unique gimmick and it did succeed in making the music more identifiable while also creating a bunch of characters associated with each

further to that, a lot of artists just like having multiple OCs in general

i have a few OCs and some of them i use to represent myself the same way you guys use your OCs which is pretty much how it works

Ah alright

It seems like there are different levels of furriness

i mean yea some people draw porn, some people rp, some people dress up

every fandom has those people but the furry fandom is super nebulous so unlike other fandoms the subcultures aren't really divided up, and they're a lot more visible

you can kinda see it to a lesser extent in the MLP fandom where the cloppers are nigh-inseperable from the others, and on the other end of the spectrum in the Homestuck and Undertale fandoms where the RPers and Cosplayers are some of the most noticeable aspects

also further to my previous comment the furry fandom is also obviously one of the few safe spaces for otherkin so they hang out there and get lumped in with it
